With more than 40 years in the Brazilian Electric Sector, has a degree in Electrical Engineering from Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro and a Master Degree in Power Systems Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, USA. Worked at ELETROBRÁS for 28 years in the Electrical System Operation Area, and came to the Board of Engineering Directory being responsible for coordinating the CCPE (Expansion Planning Committee). He was Director General of CEPEL (Research Center of ELETROBRÁS) for 8 years. He was Secretary of Mines and Energy Ministry until January 2001. He also was President of the National Committee of CIGRÉ-Brazil (Conference Internationale des Grands Réseaux Electriques) and International Coordinator of the Study Committee 38 of CIGRÉ (Power System Analysis and Techniques). Today he currently chairs the Brazilian Association of Thermoelectric Generators (ABRAGET) since 2001.
