State of Rio de Janeiro
Mr. Wilson Witzel is a Doctoral Candidate in Political Science, Master in Civil Procedure and was Professor of Economic Criminal Law for more than 20 years. He worked in institutions such as the Getulio Vargas Foundation (FGV) and the State University of Rio de Janeiro (UERJ).
Born in Jundiaí (State of São Paulo) on 19th February 1968, at age 19 he moved to Rio, where he became Marine and later Public Defender.
He joined the Judiciary in 2001, when he became Federal Judge and worked in civil and criminal courts, including the fight against organized crime. From 2014 to 2016, Mr. Witzel served as President of the Association of Federal Judges of Rio de Janeiro and Espírito Santo (Ajuferjes).
After 17 years as Federal Judge, he left the judiciary and joined the politics. He became member of Partido Social Cristão (Christian Social Party) in March 2018. In his first election, he was elected to the position of State Governor with 4.7 million votes (60% of valid votes).
